Nazarene pastor Danny Gomis raised his voice in prayer over a group gathered on the upper terrace of an apartment building in Parcelles, a suburb of Dakar, Senegal. Three rings of people stood and held hands on this roof top. The outer ring consisting of nearly 18 men, the middle ring 16 women, and the inner ring 15 children.........

Dear Family and Friends:

The first day I walked into the master bedroom of our new house in Senegal I saw this large space along one wall that was begging for a closet to be built in it.  It was slightly raised from the floor, at least 12 feet wide and 8 feet tall.  I imagined a five door master closet with extra space above for storage, shelves for all our extra family games, cameras, suitcases, and space for a floor mount safe.  The closet space to hang my wives clothes would be even greater than she could imagine.........

The courtyard had a simple dirt floor and rising from the center to the second floor were two curved cement stair ways.  They connected at the base with a broad platform where the slaves stood naked and tied to wooden stocks for auction.  The “European” slave brokers would stand in the shaded balcony above the line of human bondage and bid on the slaves like they were cattle.  Men were priced by their weight and muscle mass.  Women were valued by their breast size and their virginity.  Children earned their price by the number of their teeth..............
